Introduction

In this presentation we talk about the cloning of genetically modified food. Also of the life of Dolly the sheep, the first cloned animal in the world. And we explain the thinks of some people on this topic.

GM food

Genetically modified (GM) foods are foods produced from genetically modified organisms (GMO) that have had their DNA altered through genetic engineering. GM foods were first put on the market in the early 1990s. The most common modified foods are derived from plants: soybean, corn, canola and cotton seed oil and wheat.

Controversies surrounding GM foods and crops commonly focus on human and environmental safety, labeling and consumer choice, intellectual property rights, ethics, food security, poverty reduction, and environmental conservation.

Cloning

Cloning is the creation of an organism that is an exact genetic copy of another. This means that every single bit of DNA is the same between the two!
You might not believe it, but there are human clones among us right now. They weren't made in a lab, though: they're identical twins, created naturally. Below, we'll see how natural identical twins relate to modern cloning technologies.

How is cloning done?

You may have first heard of cloning when Dolly the Sheep showed up on the scene in 1997. Cloning technologies have been around for much longer than Dolly, though.
How does one go about making an exact genetic copy of an organism? There are a couple of ways to do this: artificial embryo twinning and somatic cell nuclear transfer.

The Dolly’s life

Dolly was born in 5th of July in 1996 and she was dead in 14th of February in 2003. Dolly was a female sheep or ewe, was the first mammal to be cloned from an adult somatic cell, using the process of nuclear transfer. The cell used was a mammary gland , proving that a cell taken from a specific body part could create a whole individual. She was named Dolly after the curvaceous country western singer Dolly Parton. Previously it was believed that a specific cell could only produce retort of the same body part from which it was obtained. She was cloned by Ian Wilmut, Keith Campbell and colleagues at the Roslin Institute in Edinburgh, Scotland, and lived there until her death at age six. Her birth was announced in February 1997.

Conclusion

In our, opinion, we agree with the genetic modified because it can help to save a lot of lives.
Also, we agree with cloning when is always to save an animals or humans live. For another part, we think it’s better the natural products, humans and animals. Because everybody is unique and extraordinary.

Writing: A compositon

The future:

In my opinion, our lives will be easier in the future:
Scientists will create robots which will do difficult jobs but well create contamination.

I think that, if we don’t live on other planets, we won’t have enough food for all of the people on Earth.

In general I feel optimistic about the future:
I believe to live in peace.

Writing: A survivor's story

Last summer I went cruising in a big ship with my family.
One day while everybody were sleeping, one tsunami flooded the ship.
There were many people of us in the ship who fell to the water. The other people were very frightened.
Suddenly me and my sister were running to my family but she went to talk to the captain of the ship.
I was very worried and frightened.
Afterwards I woke up and I thought: it had been a dream!
I felt very calm.
Nothing had happened.

Writing: An email

Hi, Laia.
I’m writing this email from France. The weather is really cold at the moment but I like it here because the people are very nice.

We’ve just arrived here in Paris. In the few days we’ve driven through beautiful forests and seen some fantastic lakes. We haven’t had bad experiences.

Tonight we’re staying at big hotel in the centre of Paris. Tomorrow we’re going to leave and we’re going to travel by plane through the Alps. It should be fun.

I hope you’ll Laia. I’ll write again soon.
Clàudia.

Writing: Describing a "life picture"

In my picture the colours are blue and purple because I like them.
I think that I am an extroverted person but I’m sometimes quite shy. I don’t like to be worried.

There’s a photo in the centre of the picture. I’m listening to music. It’s my favourite activity because it is really relaxing.

There are other people, places and objects in my picture. You can see I like people who are funny.

Dialogue: Comparing products

Clàudia: Look at this iPod, Marta. It’s so cool!

Marta: Let’s have a look. How much is that are?

Clàudia: It’s 150$.

Marta: That’s much too expensive. What about this one? It’s cheaper.

Clàudia: Can you play games on it?

Marta: Yes, you can play games on all for them. This one’s on offer. It’s only 90$.

Clàudia: That sounds good. Are you going to buy it?

Marta: Maybe. I’m going to speak to my dad first.

Dialogue: Buying by phone

Woman: Hello, Ticket Connect. How can I help you?

Clàudia: Oh, hi. I’m phoning about tickets for Franz Ferdinand.

Woman: Yes, can you tell me the date and place?

Clàudia: Yes, are there any tickets for the concert in London 26th of October?

Woman: Yes, we’ve got tickets for that.

Clàudia: Great, how much are they?

Woman: They’re all 20$.

Clàudia: Ok. Can I have four tickets please?

Woman: Yes, of course. I’ll need your name, address and a credit card number please.

Clàudia: Oh right. Just a moment… Dad!

Dialogue: Choosing from a menu

Clàudia: So what are you going to have, Marta?

Marta: I’m not sure. The Hawaiian looks good.

Clàudia: What’s that?

Marta: That’s a salad with strawberry and melon.

Clàudia: Mmm. That sounds tasty. Well I’m going to have the pasta.

Waiter: Hi. Are you ready to order?

Clàudia: Erm. Yes. Can we have a Hawaiian and pasta, please?

Waiter: One Hawaiian and one pasta. Thanks very much.

Dialogue: Asking for information

Clàudia: Excuse me. Can you help me? I'm looking for the comercial centre.

Woman: Ah yes, the commercial centre is at Loch Bhasapoll. Do you know the island?

Clàudia: Not really, no.

Woman: Let me show you on the map. It's here, look.

Clàudia: Ok great. And where's the best restaurant?

Woman: Erm, there's a good place here, in Bough.

Clàudia: Is that far from here?

Woman: No, it's about twenty minutes by car.

Clàudia: Oh. Great. Thanks very much.

Woman: Bye.
